To run custom missions using the X-Wing CD - PC version.

1) First make sure that the XCD.ZIP file has been unzipped. You should have four files - XCD.COM, CUSTOM.BAT, FILENAME.TXT, and XCD.TXT.

2) Copy the XCD.COM and CUSTOM.BAT files into your XWINGCD directory or folder.

3) Create a new directory, or folder, off the root of your hard drive called C:\MISSION.

4) Place all your custom mission files in this new directory or folder. Keep in mind that there is a limit to how many missions you may have in this directory or folder. Only keep the missions you are currently working on in there.

5) Rename your custom missions (.xwi) and their briefing files (.brf) to match names of existing missions and briefings on the X-WingCD. For this example, we'll use the first mission of the first TOD, whose mission filename is DEFECT.XWI and whose briefing file is: DEFECT.BRF. X-Wing Historical Mission #1 would be named WAISTEM and would have the XWI and BRF extentions.

6) To access the custom missions, run the CUSTOM.BAT file when you would normally run BWING.EXE. XCD will now load into your computers memory, and the game will load up as normal. To ignore the custom missions, just run BWING.EXE as you normally would.

7) Enter the game as you normally would, make a new pilot, if you so desire, and go to the first mission of the first TOD (for a custom mission renamed DEFECT.XWI). As you enter both the briefing room and then the mission hangar, you should hear a short beep each time as XCD lets you know it is substituting your custom files for the original one. If you don't hear the beep, then it's likely that the XCD patch isn't finding your custom mission.

8) Troubleshooting: Make sure you have the directory, XCD.COM, CUSTOM.BAT, all in the correct places. Also make sure that you have named your custom mission correctly so that it comes up where you're expecting it to.
